With a lot of laptops, you can use a function key to temporarily convert the keys {789 uio jkl m,.} into a tenkey pad, but it kind of sucks on most 'boards because the keys are at an odd angle to each other.

See, that is the kind of ##### that would hide the greatest proportion of my figure flaws -- I have shapely legs, if I do say so myself, but a little more in the love handle/muffin top/spare tire zone than I'd care to. However, I cannot bring myself to think that that particular look is attractive, at all, on anyone.

The '80's, folks. We did this once, and it was ugly the first time.

A lot of ones I looked at have real 10-digit keypads but not the one I went with. All the reviews I could find said "if you are shopping for a non-Mac laptop in this class you want the XPS 15, do not even consider anything else." So I decided the keypad is something I can sacrifice (though I really didn't want to). I mean, I can always plug in a USB keyboard or something if I'm going to be working from home or whatever.

USB 10-key inputs are available for, like $10. Don't mess with a whole keyboard unless you find you really prefer it.

The keyboard for the desktop I'm replacing is USB. So I'll just hang onto it for times when I want a full keyboard/num-pad. I may eventually get a USB pad if I really miss it.

The XPS 15 looks like a nice capable machine. If I was going towards that feature set I would have tended towards a desktop. Any particular reason you went laptop?

It's my first laptop. I've always been a desktop guy since I like to throw in more harddrives and RAM and whatnot as they age. But sitting on the couch and having the computer right there is tempting. And it looks like for the first time I can recall I'll be spending more time at my ladyfriend's house than vice versa. So I want to be able to bring my computer with me.

So those two things swayed me to the laptop side but I'm still easing into the whole idea so I went closer to desktop-replacement end of the spectrum than ultra-portable.

Makes sense to me. I finally gifted my bigbox to the oldest boy with some upgrade suggestions and went all mobile as well. Have you considered a dock setup for it? When it's work time I dock mine and run it out to a regular dual-monitor/c*ck/keyboard set up and when it's time for moving I grab the wireless o-c*ck and run for the hedges. I also added a second battery and power adapter for travel use and power when I get there. Best of both worlds that way. With the HD/Blue-Ray/HDMI out capability you might want to put some semi-media center use on it and a home dock set up might make sense from a wiring standpoint.

Anyways, go nuts, have fun.

Yeah, at least for the time being I'm keeping my computer desk set up with the monitor, keyboard, printer, and I'm buying a USB 3.0 box that holds up to 4 HDs. That way I can throw all 3 drives from my tower into it and have access to all my junk while at home (with room to grow) without going full-on NAS/server. I'm avoiding that for now because my current offsite backup solution, Backblaze, will backup unlimited data from local/external drives but not from a NAS or server. And $50/year to backup something like 400GB is a pretty hard deal to beat.

The machine as a full 1080p display and HDMI out so I'll be able to use it as a BluRay player when I'm at my parents' house and such, too.

Today I got in a fight with yelling with a lady outside my store. I am really lucky that the assistant manager, who was standing right next to me, does not give a shit about anything. Actually, she made a racist comment about how black people are always yelling and making a big scene. Which was pretty uncomfortable.

I think it is good that I finally fulfilled my lifelong dream of yelling at someone who honks and yells at a tentative driver. Lady #1 stopped at a yellow light, seconds before it turned red, and lady #2 honked and screamed things like "LEARN HOW TO DRIVE YOU IDIOT."

"CHILL OUT LADY" was probably not the most effective line, but I felt pretty good about it until she went inside to complain to my manager. Apparently a customer came up afterwards and said "your employee did the right thing, that woman was insane."

Also, today I think I confirmed my suspicions of who wrote that Craigslist ad about me. She is kind of my type, but not even close to as cute as my girlfriend.

You know I'm just going to keep saying three-way, right?

Today.

Today I am going to buy L.A. Noire and fuck me is it awesome. I am maybe ten minutes in and it's amazing. I am going to have to make lists of things to do other than play this game, because it is going to suck me in deeply. Speaking of other things to do . . . .

Today I am going to buy a 2005 Les Paul Standard. Is so beautiful. It sounds like mad rutty sex, and not the kind you hear through the wall and curse.

I am watching The Wire for the first time, and reflecting on how my good friend's parents are both judges in Baltimore. Man.

today I got really excited because I recognized the style of public housing in the background of this one scene in The Wire. The department of Housing and Urban Development built them all over the country in the 1950s, and they are ugly as sin.

...what is wrong with me.

I meant to comment on your Facebook post but now it's disappeared into the past, don't get too attached to all that high-rise public housing in The Wire. Like any other character on the show, you can't count on it surviving to the end of the series.
