This Thread should prove to be instructive.

Nah, I read that one back in the day. It didn't seem to speak to what you were saying, or maybe there's some reading between the lines.

AMIRITE?

No, they didn't even put down plastic!  I kid you not the houses on either side have about six inches of clearance!  I was certain the brick chimney was going to do some damage, but they did an expert job of controlling that.  I continued to watch as they carefully folded the house in on itself into a neat pile that they hauled away.  Now I can see the front yard of the house on the opposite side of the street.  It'll be interesting to see what they build in place of the house.

Went to the last day of a local conference about vacant land/property. A locally infamous developer was there and I could not really make heads or tails of the argument going on. Everyone was yelling and interrupting each other, and his response to everything was to say that these people were misinformed.

Yesterday was a movie about Detroit. It made me feel pretty unsympathetic to the people of Detroit, which made me feel like a monster.
Two key scenes:
1. auto workers union votes not to accept a pay cut, after being threatened with the closure of the factory. Then the factory closes and they lose their jobs.
2. People yell at the mayor for cutting services because the city is broke. "you should be expanding services, not cutting them!"

These events were held in a bad-part-of-town neighborhood that I was anticipating to be horrible. It actually looked almost as nice as my neighborhood. Mere blocks away from the kind of scary neighborhood where my internship was. We drove by and they were planting the vegetable garden that I made the plans for. Cool.

I had all sorts of plans for today, which mostly dissolved into watching that house slowly disappear.

Yup.  There were a lot of little boys running up to the workers with excitement yesterday.  I get it young ones.  I get it.

I'm pretty sure one of my friends volunteered at an urban garden in St. Louis a few years ago (she does so many things in different places I could be mismatching the activity with the city). She said it was a pretty bad experience, but I think it was before your time.

Today I'm going to consider inviting Chris (on FB) to a party at my house, laugh like a motherfucker, and then decide not to. I'm still entertaining the idea - whatchoo guys think?

If your party had a foodie element then it would be totally non-creepy to invite him.

ALSO: Mother fuck*ng nature just gave us a little ground shaker to keep us on our toes.

Sweet!

[edit] It was a little 3.9 just a little south of us off of San Juan Capistrano. The birds just came back (they're trying to build nests in my house eaves, actually, but me and the garden hose are fighting them to a standstill so far) and I guess the Earth Goddess Bitch had to roll out the welcome wagon.

3.9? It's a good thing you were awake or you'd have missed it, amirite?

some ladies have an inner-six-year-old-boy.

Chaos Girl and I were in a parking lot in a new shopping center where there is ongoing construction. We heard an air horn and looked over just in time to hear what sounded like firecrackers and see a huge cloud of red clay dust rise from the pit they're excavating. I shouted, "Wow, Chaos! They're using explosives to make holes in the ground! That's so cool!" And she replied, "Now that's something you don't see every day!"

Yes, ma'am. It certainly is.
