Had a dream I was eating a Lake Trout sandwich. Then someone pulled out a gun, screamed something about Snitching, and shot me. I woke up screaming and curled up in the fetal position. It took a really, really long time to sort out what was a dream and what was real and open my eyes.

I was about to say "Are Lake Trout sandwiches a St Louis thing too" and then I realized, you have been watching too much of The Wire.

...that I went into a room which is little used in my house and there was a very hungry and neglected parakeet lying on the floor of his cage (I do not own a parakeet).  I ran around trying to find him some food, and came up with a little stale seed which I sprinkled into his cage.  He pounced on it and ate it furiously.  I opened the cage to get him out, and he flew out the door and disappeared into the rest of the house.

I think I need to up my quality of work.  This felt way symbolic.

Matthew Perry, why did you drink too much scotch? And why did I then take it on myself to drive you back to your apartment? And then when I put you in your bed, why did you transform into a beautiful woman?

And, most importantly, why didn't I sleep with you?

At least you realized the salient point here.

I had a dream in which most of an episode of the Simpsons occurred, mainly centered around Grandpa and his motorcycle - and of course in the weird way that dreams happen, I was in the episode instead of watching it. It reminded me of an old thread here in which someone described dreaming an Achewood strip.

I recently had a nightmare about having too many paint chips to choose from.

This was after having spent the evening looking at paint chips and trying to choose colours to paint the entire interior of our house.  I wish that really was the only stress in my life, but sadly it was only the most immediate stress that I'd dealt with before sleeping.

I also had a very vivid dream that started with my husband and I swimming in what I thought was the ocean.  The water was rough, but while bobbing around in what I thought was a wave I saw the opposite shore and realized it was actually a river instead, so I swam to the bank with my husband.  We then headed into a public shower/change room area.  I thought it was odd that men and women were changing together in a Muslim country, but figured I'd go with the flow.  Then I realized I'd gravely misunderstood and that it wasn't a unisex change room, but a male only one that I had some how misread as unisex, and all the men were staring at me furiously, so I ran out of there with only a too-small towel, leaving my husband behind.  I ran into a women's clothing store, and there were lots of women there eager to cloth and protect me from the forth coming onslaught of furious men.  Unfortunately as I frantically tried to find a hijab and other suitable garb to hide my shame it became apparent that none of the garments were suitable for my "North American" figure at the same point as the furious men burst into the shop with the intent to take out vengeance on me.  All the kind women tried to buy me some time by talking to the men, but eventually it was too late and the men ripped open the door to the change room and found me there naked, clinging to some pretty silk outfits that I was holding.

Really weird.  I don't know where this dream came from and have never had one like it before or since.

Yeah, I had some vague concept that they were furious with me.  Their rage had no sexual overtones though.  I think they wanted to rip me limb from limb, beat me or otherwise just cause me a lot of pain.  Such an odd dream.

I dreamed that I looked out the window and saw a meteor hurtling towards the earth!

And then it landed and a lot of people died!

And for some reason a lot of stuff near me caught fire!

I really am starting to wish I could fall asleep without taking melatonin. But for some reason, I have had terrible insomnia for a week, and though melatonin helps with that, it can cause very vivid dreams. Being prone to nightmares anyway, this is the third time this week I've dreamed about some kind of apocalyptic scenario.

At least this one didn't involve being separated from my kids while slowly dying of radiation poisoning. That one was...very rough.

Holy shit, have any of you ever experienced sleep paralysis?

So I was at this lake over the weekend, and every day I had a shit ton to drink. The second night I wanted to listen to a couple songs that were stuck in my head and didn't have my headphones, so I sat in my car for a few minutes, got tired, turned the car off and passed out for a few hours. Right around 3 AM I got up and went into my friend's camper and went to sleep again. At least twice I remember waking up feeling entirely paralyzed for about a minute, and then I could move. I also felt something or someone next to me, which at first freaked me the fuck out and then I just wondered if maybe it was their dog or one of the people there, and then realized I was alone (which is a different sad story). I felt fine as soon as I got up and going, but I don't know if I've ever felt more terrified when my life wasn't actually in danger.

So when I got home I was googling stuff like "wake up feeling paralyzed" or "paralyzed in dreams" and I guess it's a thing.

Fortunately never happened to me but I read a whole book about it once. Feeling like someone else is there is a typical feature of the experience if I remember correctly. The book was mostly about all the folklore that had arisen to explain the phenomenon. I don't remember if there was any explanation of why it used to be common enough that there was folklore and now most people seem to have never experienced or heard of it.

Used to get that fairly often as a teen. I found it really unpleasant.

Of course, I had a dream the other night complete with domestic abuse, stalking, murder, rape, terrorism, etc, so it's all relative.
