oh man, my other roommate's band of guys I don't know is running through their songs in the basement, and I am suddenly overwhelmed with the feeling tomorrow is gonna rule. So many friends put their little acts together for this gig and sound great. Hopefully some of them will blossom into real bands.

I am so pumped for my performance. My roommates were surprised by my singing voice, and I'm going to go ahead and assume it was in a good way.

I think regular crack pipes would blow bubbles.

That went great! I felt out of tune the whole time, but it was all kind of a blur. I think I was yelling more than singing. But all the friends have nice things to say. I have a video of my performance on some kind of analog tape, not sure how to convert that to the 21st century.

I watched the VHS, it is great. Some high school (!?) kid showed up with a videocamera, took the video with a giraffeeye lens, and left the tape behind when his camera ran out of batteries. It is a perfect mix of crowd footage, wandering around our house, and my performance. The other bands are recorded spottily or weirdly focused on just one member. Gonna have to do some googling to figure out how to cheaply make this baby digital.

Everyone loved it. One of my friends approached me afterwards asking if I want to be in a band with him. Also, some guy none of us had ever seen asked "how I got the gig" and started telling me about all of the shows his band has played. He wanted me to pass along the info to whoever "booked" the show. In my basement.

During the guitar solo the drummer/my roommate started yelling the vocal melody, and THE WHOLE CROWD STARTED SINGING ALONG. Oh man I felt like I was exploding.

All the girls I have crushes on showed up after it was over, of course. Because this is still Wombat's world after all.

(the prettiest girl ever was incredibly nervous about playing, and gave me a really sweaty smelly hug, and kept asking for help calming down/finding a tuner/etc. so cute.)

I think part of the reaction is because I was one of the only people that tried to craft a song built around lyrics. Even if it's just one verse and 2 repetitions of a chorus. Other people did stuff that was more instrumental or with lyrics that were more purposely silly, about aliens taking over or whatever. Obviously the idea of surfing in St Louis is silly, but it's really about loving the city despite its faults? Or something?

Also a wicked catchy melody. I have no idea where it came from.

Right now I am having a g-chat conversation with my friend. What is interesting about this is that she is on the subway/metro/whatever commuting to work in France, while I am sitting in my bed at midnight in America.

looks like almost 4 inches of snow here today, that should have atlanta metro shut down until midday thursday, which is almost friday already anyway so let's start drinking now and we'll see you on monday

people are all over facebook posting how many hours they're spending in traffic and i'm just like "DUH, YEAH, WHY WOULD YOU GET ON THE FREEWAY"

two friends of mine were stuck out in the cold from 3pm yesterday until... wait for it... 6am today. the sky is clear and blue today, our heat blanket completely dissipating, preventing the temperature from rising past freezing. all that's going to happen is a liiiiiiitle bit of snow is going to melt and then almost immediately refreeze.

neighbors are gathering in the park at 11am to do a bit of sledding. i have to miss it because my permanent telecommute isn't disabled by weather, unless comcast somehow comes down with a major weather-related fuckup. oh well.
