The way that my roommate reorganized the whole fridge without asking anyone brings up a lot of interesting planning and governance questions:
1. Cultural assumptions about "legibility" and organizational schemes-- do "on the ground" users have a perspective on local conditions which may be different from top-down organizers and policy-makers? Is the best organizational scheme for day-to-day use the same as the best scheme from the POV of non-stakeholders?
2. Why do some people think it's OK to move other people's shit?

If you have a problem with this, you'd best never get married.

Well, presumably my wife and I will not keep our groceries separate. And we will have known each other for more than a month.

Who knows, though.

The internet: my old history teacher/drama teacher from high school has become a body builder. One of my classmates found pictures of him, bright orange and greased up and making the same dorky old faces I remember from 2002 but now with huge muscles. Whaaaat.

To return to a topic from the other day, I will definitely give Henry Rollins respect for writing an article that made me "get" weight training and other body-training as a vehicle for building confidence, self-esteem, and self-respect. The POV he conveyed in that article really changed my perspective on an experience a lot of people have-- which is part of why I'm disappointed when he writes unsympathetic stuff. Being able to convey experiences that way is a gift, and what I think the highest purpose of writing is.

I'll have to look that one up.  I agree with you about the highest purpose of writing.

Spent all day Saturday wandering around Brooklyn. Nobody is surprised except me: the parts of Brooklyn that locals say are still like "the old Brooklyn" feel like a more crowded St Louis. Especially the Italian and Irish neighborhoods in STL are like the further-out Brooklyn neighborhoods but with a slightly different flavor.

Finally learning some stuff that makes me scratch my head in my finance class. It's a good/terrifying feeling. And the book we're reading for History of Planning is excellent.

Just got a letter saying I've been approved for in-state tuition, retroactive to the start of this semester. Which means they're mailing me a check for $5,000. That takes a nice chunklet out of my student loans.

Yeah. Their guidelines are really loose. Officially you have to be a resident for a year "except in special cases", but it seems like all the graduate students I know have gotten in-state tuition. So clearly there is some kind of calculation where they think that is benefitting their programs.

I'm doing homework right now, and I successfully created a spreadsheet that tells me the answers to these real estate finance problems. Satisfying.

today is my ex's birthday/our former anniversary. I am celebrating by cooking some spicy pork, and then going on a date with a geeky Jersey girl with a big butt.

Is snookie really into D&D?

That was a good date. We drank beer and ate pizza and went to an arcade and played Tetris.
