From Wikipedia: Mercury was well known for his extravagance and hedonism. When asked how he would live without fame or money, he replied, "I'll always walk around like a Persian popinjay and no one's going to stop me".
Bah! Do you think I care about cool?If you like it then it is cool. Maybe it was just that preposterous Queen musical that was deemed uncool?
Paul's getting ready to post a picture of himself with his arm around Freddy Mercury. No, god I wish, that would be awesome.
How could anyone think Queen isn't cool?
Way to leave us hanging though, sideshow. If you want a biopic, who would you want to play him? I can't really think of anyone who would do him justice.
Will Ferrell.
* FLASH! AAAAAaaaaaaaaa!

Also, Paul, please tell us your story! I'm tingly with an-ti-ci-pa-tion, and I will give you three tiny cans of Dr. Pepper for the privilege.Ok, I'll do it for the tiny cans of Dr. Pepper*.
Realizing that attaching spiritual significance to these events puts me in the same category as people who flock to see the visage of the Virgin Mary on a corn chip or cracked window pane or whatever, but I do attach spiritual significance to these events. So there you have it, that's my Freddy Mercury story.
~Paul
We're all familiar with the strange nature of dreams, in this one I was Freddy Mercury's son. And he was basically showing me around and telling me everything that I needed to know to carry on after he was gone.
Please tell me you won't be putting on one of these (http://www.dprp.vuurwerk.nl/proghistory/images/mercury.jpg) as a result.
That said, it needs to go before Toroid notices.
Well now I have an urge to go take the Christmas music off and put on some Queen.
You pronounce it just like ghoti.
Could be: Juff (like tough), Joff (like cough), Jew (like through), Jow (like bough), Joe (like dough). While my brain hears it Joff, upon consideration, I'm going with Joe.Pedantry compels me to point out Jock(like hough).
Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Jough Chicago wgah'nagl fhtagn
Miss Jackson, if you're nasty.
It's actually Jokh, as pronounced in the Manx dialect

canned for the laugh, you puerto rican sumbitch.
Gotta be Killer Queen for me.
Fat Bottom Girls. Perfect marriage of lyrical content and musical spirit. The damned thing SOUNDS like a fat girl. Plus bonus Irony Points for Freddie talking about Sexy Times with the ladies.
So what's your favorite Queen song? Me, I don't know, they really are just about my favorite band, nearly up there with the Beatles and all, I don't know if I could single out one song and call it my favorite.
I like a lot of their more quirky songs like Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy or Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon, etc... I used to like their hardest rocking songs like White Man or Prophet's Song a lot more than I do now. Although I still like the Roger Taylor rockers because they sound more punk than prog. I'm pretty fond of the songs that slip into a specific genre such as Millionaire Waltz or Bring Back that Leroy Brown. And of course I love their biggest hits like Bohemian Rhapsody, Another One Bites the Dust, We are the Champions, etc... even though they have been burned out from constant radio rotation (even still).
I guess if I have to narrow it down to one song I'll have to go with Somebody to Love. Even though it's one of their big hits I never get tired of listening to it. It's also one of their genre songs (old time gospel) and the message really hits home with me. I often feel like the protagonist of the song. And last, but by no means least the song just rocks. The band is so fuck*ng tight and the voices are simply amazing.
So anyway, what's your favorite Queen song?
Mr Bateman? Patrick? Is that you?

How have you never seen this movie?
Ok, I think I get the comparison now? You're saying I sound like a psycho when I describe my favorite Queen song."Why isnt the insane murderer acting like a real person!?" Yeah and why does mark miller think the bilderberg group burned him to death.
No, I haven't seen that movie, but I have seen that scene before. I think it spoiled me ever wanting to see the rest of the movie because it's so laughably unrealistic. Maybe I'm missing the point again, was it supposed to be funny?
The only Christian Bale movie I've seen is The Dark Knight which is also laughably bad.
Its a suspense/thriller featuring a psychopathic serial killer, so I think demanding realism is kind of out of the genre's league.
Not really. I think most people just think it's really cool to see someone savagely hack up a dude while calmly describing his favorite lame ass music. It's ironic, maaan. Meanwhile ignoring that nothing in the scene makes any sense.
...3:10 To Yuma which is a fantastic modern Western. Him and Russell Crowe are brilliant in it.
To be fair, it is hard to fuck up Bowie as Tesla.
In fact, the only way to improve on that would be, like, his best friend Mark Twain being played by Tom Waits.
And... and they solve mysteries.

Whilst I understand your viewpoint and would probably feel the same way viewing that scene without context it is very unfair to judge it like that without seeing the film. The scene and his actions definitely makes a lot more 'sense' as in going beyond what appears to be nothing more than a Tarantino-esque brutality/music/dancing/monologues = COOL sketch. There's a lot more substance in the film, I'd urge you not to dismiss it so quickly.No. PMCd9 made it clear it is only appropriate to base one's opinion on a film after seeing a clip without context.
It's worth a watch anyway.
...
american psycho 2 (mila kunis) was better.
i never knew christian bale was british until i watched the special features for 'the prestige'.
OMG, Christian Bale is British?
That's very nearly as shocking as when I found out Lily Tomlin is gay.
Fun fact: Where he's from is called Hwlffordd.Did they donate all their vowels to Bosnia?
Does he do a British accent in any film whatsoever bar the Prestige?
John Barrowman (Jack Harkness of Torchwood) also does an excellent 'merican, but he lived in Illinois from the time he was nine, so I don't think that counts.
In fact, he doesn't "do" an American accent, he's actually "bidialectal". I saw an interview with him once somewhere where he explained that when he's in Scotland he goes back to his original Scottish accent, but elsewhere he tend to use the American accent.
Pedro mentioned, while we were discussing this last night, that Anthony Hopkins does a very good British accent. I told him I thought that this was because he's actually British, and that in reality he does a very good American accent. So. pop quiz time: who was right?
(Highlight for answer:) I was right: he's Welsh.
i can read that without highlighting :P
anthony hopkins also does a killer south-new-zealand accent, see 'the world's fastest indian' for proof
can somebody tell me where the fuck anna paquin's british accent came from? she was on the SAG awards last night and my brain melted a bit when she talked.

Lady Gaga as Brian May.
Crap, that's what I get for being in a hurry and not checking to be sure my post actually ended up on beige.
Possibly ignorant question for the Brits and Aussies: If you're British, with, say a London accent, is it fairly easy to adopt a different type of accent within the Empire, like Welsh or even Irish or Australian?
I ask because, while my natural accent is Mid-Atlantic, I find certain types of Southern accents easy to imitate (Georgian and Texan, but not South Carolinian) and can do passable Midwest/Minnesotan, Canadian, and New York. Yet my Boston stinks, and I can hardly comprehend Cajun, let alone imitate it. And any attempt at a British accent is limited to sounding like Mary Poppins, which works fine in the bedroom but isn't of much use anywhere else.
As a sort of follow-up question, can the average Brit tell the difference between various US accents? Watching a lot of British TV, I can hear a lot of different voices, but though I can tell that there is a difference, I couldn't really identify someone's point of origin from his accent the way I could an American. I would posit that most of the American television that gets exported features either Californian or Mid-Atlantic speech with occasional Texas and New York accents thrown in for color.

I've got a weird accent to begin with though, not typically australian, I tend to get asked if I'm canadian or irish, but generally not from people who are from those places.I have a hopelessly muddy accent. Learned to speak in the US upper midwest, primary education in NSW, secondary in California (where I tried hard to lose the foreign sounds). People know I'm "not from around here", but no one can place where I sound like I'm from.
different regional aussie accents
It does annoy me sometimes when people use the term 'British accent'. You've got this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3IlGnTpGc8E) this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCkVWoh4K3A) (Jay-ell you'll like that one) this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MT52HhtJ6kU&feature=related) this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-VNENZ7KMk) this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2DbViZTvRE) this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkWvImeSsaM) and it literally differs every 10 miles. People can tell which village I'm from in the local area
It's fine saying 'he's got a British accent' or whatever but when people are like 'I'm imitating a British accent' and then just speak like the Queen it fucks me off no end
I can't tell Aussie from New Zealand.
There are regional Aussie accents? I always assumed the main difference was bogan/non-bogan.
As for Seth Efrican, just watch District 9.
Were they written in crayola and speckled with sand?
I like the idea of a biopic where Sacha Baron-Cohen plays Mercury, and this guy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90IRPbXEvzM) is Brian May.
Well, I don't know shit about guitar yet, but I just listened to "Best Friend" and it seemed like there were some harmonics going on in that.
